So in spite of my succsess, look for details on the net before buying one. I heard of many problems with these machines, but, except pinch roller and cleaning foam roller, mine was ok. To me the sound is almost perfect, although I have the feeling, the bass is slightly less on the recordings and the highs get slightly harsh. Several hours of recordings later, it still works fine. I couldn´t believe that such a crude thing as the DIY roller could even work at all. My new pinch roller coating fell off the core after about one hour of playing time. I removed the foam roll including the plastic lever that shoud be cleaning the heads slightly in stop mode. I removed the hardened rubber from the brass an aplied 2 layers of simple shrinking tube as precisely as possible (for me). On a forum somebody said, shrinking tube (Schrumpfschlauch in German) would work as `rubber`. On the internet I found several offers for newly made pinch rollers or repair.Īs I didn´t plan to invest much money for this interesting, but, not really useful machine, I decided to go the DIY way. I found the pinch roller had turned to (almost) stone. I cleaned the heads, tape path an pinch roller. (my cassettes had some music on them before) Then I had digital dropouts, heard that first on my own recordings.
